UC Berkeley Queer Undocumented Student Working Group Mission Statement

(as of 11/10/12)

The Queer Undocumented Working Group is a collaboration that began in Spring 2012 involving students, faculty and staff from the Gender Equity Resource Center (GenEq), Center for Race and Gender (CRG), Student Life Advising Services/Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), the Student Learning Center and other organizations who are invested in creating a greater understanding on campus about issues affecting students who identify as queer and undocumented. We see it as essential to actively engage students as equal stakeholders alongside faculty and staff in this work. Our goals are to provide a forum for queer and undocumented students to network as well as to contribute to the national conversation and movement about the intersections of queer identities and undocumented experiences. We also strive to provide a forum for engaged intersectionality: for undocumented queer students to strengthen already ongoing discussion of immigration issues and queer issues and to make queer undocumented experiences more visible in queer spaces, undocumented organizing spaces and the wider campus community.
