The Office for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination (OPHD) is responsible for ensuring the University provides an environment for faculty, staff and students that is free from discrimination and harassment on the basis of categories including race, color, national origin, gender, age, and sexual orientation/identity.

Ombuds Office for Student and Postdoctoral Appointees

The Ombuds Office can be your first step, your last resort, or anything in between. If you wish assistance sorting through a campus-related conflict or concern, please contact us. The ombudsperson will listen to you concerns, serve as a sounding board, discuss you options with you, and help you get a new perspective and determine the next steps to take. All UC Berkeley undergraduates, graduate students, and postdoctoral appointees, as well as faculty and staff members who work with these groups.

Office of Faculty Equity

The Office of Faculty Equity works closely with a number of campus departments including the Office of Academic Personnel (appointment advancement), and the Office for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination (sexual harassment, sex or race discrimination) in promoting inclusive hiring practices, developing supportive academic personnel policies, conducting cutting-edge research on faculty equity, monitoring faculty advancement, responding to faculty grievances, and promoting faculty retention; by building a vibrant and diverse academic community.

Staff Diversity Initiatives: Division of Equity and Inclusion

Sidalia Reel, Director of Staff Diversity Initiative is charged with engaging staff and management to ensure staff diversity throughout the campus at all levels of employment; to foster an inclusive workplace with a welcoming climate, and to link staff diversity efforts to the public mission of the university in support of a holistic vision for the campus.

The Staff Ombuds Office

The staff Ombuds Office promotes fairness, equity, justice and humane treatment in the workplace. They offer confidential, informal, and impartial assistance to your work-related concerns. (Exception: if there is imminent risk of serious harm). They don’t participate in formal proceedings. In order to assure confidentiality, we ask that you contact the office by phone only and not by e-mail, regular mail, or fax.
